What do I do if I am harassed by the police?

Policy 402 protects LGBT from profiling, discrimination, harassment by the New Orleans Police Department. This means that, among other protections,

  • Officers are barred from using any derogatory language regarding or towards LGBT people
  • Officers must address individuals using their chosen name and pronoun
  • Officers shall not subject transgender individuals to more invasive or more frequent frisk procedures due to actual or perceived gender identity.

You can read the whole policy here. A special thanks to BreakOUT for their tireless efforts encouraging the NOPD to pass Policy 402.

If you do experience profiling, discrimination, or harassment from the NOPD, you can file an anonymous complaint online via the Independent Police Monitor here.
