International Family Equality Day (IFED) is a world-wide celebration of the LGBTQ parenting and family community. Locally, you can celebrate by joining NOLA Gay Families, this Sunday 7th from 1-3:30pm at the Airline Skate Park in Metairie. If you mention NOLA Gay Families, you can gain entry for just $4.50. Families of all kinds and ages are welcome!
NOLA GAY FAMILIES is a grass roots community based organization which was created in 2016 to foster a safe and nurturing environment for LGBTQ families and potential parents. They are social networking group with nearly 150 members for LGBTQ parents (and LGBTQ people thinking/wanting to become a parent) in and around New Orleans & Louisiana. Their mission is to create events to allow us to connect in our community in an environment that nurtures, nourishes and empowers each of us on our journey as pioneering and potential parents.
The LGBT Center has recently formed an exciting partnership with NOLA Gay Families, providing fiscal sponsorship for the group so that they can expand and serve even more people in the Greater NOLA area. We are thrilled that this group is organizing parents, resources, and more for our community.
NOLA Gay Families meets, at a minimum, on a monthly basis for social meetings, pop-up play dates and other special events to bring a broader awareness and understanding diverse families. Their events include: outdoor activities, holiday gatherings, new parent celebrations, playground meet-up, discussion groups, clothes exchanges, family planning, legal seminars, and resource exchange and Gay Pride celebrations.
