Thanks for a Great Grand Re-Opening!

Thanks for a Great Grand Re-Opening!

The Grand Re-Opening was a smashing success, we saw over 150 people and raised over $4500 for the Center in one day! Your support continues to provide a free and accessible space for LGBTQ and allied community groups.

City Counselor LaToya Cantrell cut the ribbon at 10:30 am February 1st and spoke about the need for unity among marginalized groups, particularly immigrant families, LGBTQ people, and religious minorities. The Center’s longtime friends including former board members Brian Sands and Mary Griggs, came to visit along with our new friends and neighbors the Foundation for Louisiana and Green Coast Realty. PFLAG donated champagne for the reception and local media was there to cover the event; we were featured on WGNO and WWL later that day.

A steady stream of people visited the new Center throughout the day, with many families and kids showing up in the afternoon to color pages from The Big Gay Alphabet Book and play in the courtyard. The inside of our new space was colorfully decorate with rainbow pennants made by one of our volunteers and flowers donated by Urban Angel. The big party started at 7pm with food donated by Louisiana Pizza Kitchen and an open bar! We were thrilled to see people from many of our community partners including Stonewall Sports, BGIU (Black Gay Intellectuals United), and LOUD Queer Youth Theater.

For a list of community groups we serve and more information about the Center, check out this presentation from our Grand Re-Opening.
